August 28 Is National Red Wine Day! Celebrate With Japanese Red Wine!

August 28 Is National Red Wine Day

It's always a good time for red wine, especially on August 28, National Red Wine Day. Merlot, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Bordeaux, Chianti, and Rioja are just a few red wines from around the world. On this Wine Day, how about trying some of Japan's red wine? Chanmoris Yamanashi Muscat Bailey A is the perfect wine for the occasion!

Muscat Bailey A - Most Popular Red Grape in Japan

Muscat Bailey A is the most widely planted red grape in Japan. It was bred in the 1920s by Kawakami Zenbei, the "grandfather" of Japanese wine. Muscat Bailey A is a result of many years of experimentation with cross breeding, trying to find a wine grape that could withstand the freezing conditions. Muscat Bailey A buds late in order to avoid frosts in spring and ripens sufficiently early to escape those in autumn.

While Muscat Bailey A can be classified as ‘easy drinking’, and is most often used to make light-styled, fruity reds, low in both tannins and acidity, some quality-focused producers have also proved that it can be turned into aromatic, supple and fresh reds which recall cru Beaujolais. The light, fruity style of Muscat Bailey A pairs well with Asian-style cold salads, seared fish, and even ceviche.

Recommended Muscat Bailey A Wine

This wine is Yamanashi GI (Geographical Indication) certified wine which means it has passed the rigorous assessment set by Japanese goverment. Yamanashi was the first wine region awarded Geographical Indication (GI) by the Japanese government.

Made from Muscat Baily A grapes grown in Yamanashi Prefecture. The wine has a rich, raspberry and strawberry aroma, with sweetness like American cherries on the palate, harmonised with a bitter spice flavour. The light, yet crisp taste of this Muscat Perrier A is of world-class quality.
