A Legacy Inspired by Poetry

Founded in 1882, Rihaku Brewery is named after the celebrated Chinese poet Li Bai (known as Rihaku in Japanese), who lived from 701 to 762. Li Bai was a wandering poet renowned for his love of sake and his frank celebration of intoxication, often writing his most famous works while inebriated. The brewery pays homage to this poetic legacy by incorporating Li Po’s verses and phrases into their brochures and labels. Many of their sake offerings are named after lines from his poetry, reflecting the spirit of creativity and celebration that defined Li Po’s life.

Rihaku “Origin of Purity” Omachi Junmai Ginjo Nama Genshu

One of Rihaku’s standout offerings is the “Origin of Purity” Omachi Junmai Ginjo Nama Genshu. This sake pours clear with a subtle yellow hue, immediately inviting with its distinctive aroma of cold steel, earth, and moss—signature notes of the Omachi rice variety. The palate is delightfully soft, with a bright, lime skin acidity that adds a refreshing touch. The finish is marked by a lingering hint of s, offering a unique and complex flavor profile.

What makes this sake particularly intriguing is its use of yeast cultivated from a rosebud, contributing to its floral undertones. While it is enjoyable now, allowing it to age for six months will reveal even greater depth and complexity, making it a perennial favorite among sake enthusiasts.
