Nakano Shuzo Black Tea Umeshu: A Luxurious Treat Infused With Local Flavors

A Perfect Fusion of Local Ingredients

Nakano Shuzo, one of the most renowned and innovative sake breweries in Oita Prefecture, has introduced a standout creation to its popular 'Chiebijin' series: Black Tea Umeshu. Crafted with precision and attention to detail, the ingredients reflect a commitment to quality and local heritage.

The tea leaves, from the 'Benifuki' variety, are known not only for their rich flavor but also for their potential anti-allergy benefits when consumed as green tea. These leaves are cultivated by local farmer Koji Anan in Kitsuki City, Oita Prefecture, who has revived them under the name 'Kitsuki Black Tea.'

The tea is cold-brewed using sacred spring water from Rokugo Manzan, drawn from 200 meters underground—a key component of the 'Chiebijin' brand. This deep, pristine water enhances the tea’s natural essence. The cold-brewed tea is then masterfully blended with plum wine made from locally sourced Nanko plums and brandy, resulting in the unique and exquisite Black Tea Umeshu.

An Unmatched Aroma and Versatile Experience

The standout feature of this 'Black Tea Umeshu' is its sophisticated aroma. Unlike any other plum wine infused with tea, the fragrance of the tea takes center stage, with an elegant scent that lingers with each sip. The subtle bitterness of the tea, combined with the sweet, tangy notes of the plum and the warming touch of brandy, creates a truly luxurious tasting experience, tantalizing both the palate and the senses.

This liqueur is incredibly versatile, making it suitable for all seasons. In the summer, it can be served on the rocks or chilled straight, offering a refreshing and cooling option. In the winter, it’s best enjoyed hot, delivering warmth and comfort in every sip. For an inventive twist, try mixing it half and half with milk to create a rich, creamy drink that complements the bold flavors of the tea and plum.

The Best-Selling Gem of the 'Chiebijin' Line

According to Atsuyuki Nakano, the sixth-generation owner of Nakano Shuzo, the 'Black Tea Umeshu' has rapidly become the best-selling product in the 'Chiebijin' series. Its perfectly balanced flavor profile, marked by the gentle bitterness of the tea, the plum's natural sweetness, and the bold hint of brandy, has captivated a wide range of customers. This harmonious blend of flavors offers an indulgent and refined liqueur experience, making it a must-try for lovers of premium spirits.

A Note for Drinkers

As you enjoy this exceptional liqueur, please be aware that the natural crystallization of the plum wine and tea components may cause slight cloudiness in the bottle. Rest assured, this does not impact the quality or taste. Simply shake the bottle well before serving, and immerse yourself in the flavors of this distinctive creation.
